Our Philosophy
Seedhead Gardens sculpts outdoor environments into garden spaces, creating a gentle, human transition from shelter to wild.
Our designs respond to the rhythms and patterns of nature, a practice that requires us to carefully study the world around us. We take note of nearby plant communities: considering their color combinations, how they structurally hold each other up, how their roots will intermingle in the soil below, how they’ll stand together. We honor the cycles of the season, wrapping winter into the fold as an important time of renewal - to fully integrate our design practice into life growing around us. Through this observation we learn so much from our gardens about patience, resilience, interdepence, joy, beauty, and hope.
Seedhead Gardens is run by plant enthusiast, gardener, and designer Mia Wendel-DiLallo.
In 2020, Mia began working as a horticultural assistant and gardener for MANITOGA, a historic house and 75-acre preserved woodland garden of primarily native plants in Garrison, NY. She has also worked as a gardener for Stonecrop Gardens, a 15-acre botanical garden comprising temperate climate conservatories, flower gardens, meadows, and teaching gardens in Cold Spring, NY. Her part-time preservation work has included a reforestation project in Cornwall, New York with the Wild Woods Restoration Project. She is certified in Landscape Design through the New York Botanical Garden.
