ABOUT SEEDHEAD
The name, Seedhead Gardens, comes from the practice of leaving plants’ beautiful seedheads in place through winter. Dusted in snow or bathed in the soft glow of the afternoon sun, seedheads provide breathtaking sculptural forms in the garden, and their muted, silvery tones stand out on the shortest days of the year. Seedheads are not only visually striking — they are helpful to all kinds of local wildlife as well. Beneficial insects take shelter in the arching stems left up over winter, and birds feast on the seeds when the ground is frozen.
Seedheads are a memory of the beautiful blooms of summer and fall, and a glimpse of the abundance of spring to come.
